The regulatory framework for the use of lead in industry is undergoing substantial changes.
• REACH has recently included the lead in the SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) list.
• The European Union is about to publish the revision of the DWD (Drinking Water Directive) which will lead to a further reduction of lead content in the water intended for human consumption.
• The revision of the RoHS directive in 2021 could also lead to a significant reduction in the lead content in brass alloys.
Today the use of the usual alloys is absolutely allowed.
However, in order to anticipate possible market demands, ALMAG has already taken steps to create lead-free variants (<0.1%) of the alloys:
• CW509L
• CW510L
• CW511L
The same are available for both hot forging and mechanical processing.
The refinement of the alloy and particular arrangements in the composition allow however to maintain good parameters of workability and cutting.
